Cross country fixtures 2011-2012
This year Glossopdale Harriers will again affiliate to two local cross country leagues - the Red Rose and the South East Lancs., both leagues being organised, managed and owned by over 20 running clubs from around the Greater Manchester area. Because the leagues operate using only volunteers from all the competing clubs and are non-profit making, all entry fees and club affiliation fees collected are used to pay for the hire of venues from local authorities, (a big unknown this year) but are also able to support an extensive and generous array of trophies and prizes, as well as covering all the usual race costs including England Athletics affiliation, race numbers etc. We strive to maintain the sporting ethos in these local cross country races by keeping all costs to an absolute minimum and so are able to provide cheap high quality competition in the winter months for all age groups from 8+ to 70+ . At the end of the season (Jan or Feb) each league holds their own trophy presentation evening where a sporting celebrity presents trophies to individual winners and teams. Glossopdale runners have often featured among the trophy winners over the years and I have every hope we will be able to do so again this season.
